Catherine Gicheru
Catherine is an ICFJ Fellow working with Code for Africa's Academy and Communities programs which includes the WanaData network of women Data Journalists and Data Scientists, and the continent-wide Hacks Hackers community. She co-founded East Africa’s first fact checking initiative PesaCheck and is closely involved in getting newsrooms to adapt and use sensor journalism techniques and advocacy groups to take up and use data collected as part of the continent-wide sensors.Africa project (https://sensors.africa/). A veteran journalist, Catherine was the first female investigative editor, news editor and bureau chief at East Africa’s largest media group, Nation Media Group and was the founding editor of the Star newspaper.
