Freelance journalist (Germany)

Kerstin Hoppenhaus

Kerstin Hoppenhaus is a freelance science journalist and filmmaker. She has directed several documentary series for television and focuses now on online multimedia projects. She has worked with Zeit-Online, Süddeutsche Zeitung, Undark, BBC Future, and others. Currently, she is developing ""Die Unken Postille"", a hyperlocal participatory science magazine in Eastern Germany. Kerstin is a member of the award-winning cooperative Reef Reporters (riffreporter.de) for freelance journalism. She teaches workshops in multimedia storytelling at Film Academy Ludwigsburg and at Goethe Institute in Cairo. In 2018, she was Journalist in Residence at the Heidelberg Institute for Theoretical Studies and won the Peter Hans Hofschneider Investigation Award for Scientific and Medical Journalism. Her work was supported by an EJC Innovative Development Reporting Grant twice. She tweets @quinoat.
