Head of Communication, European Food Information Council (EUFIC) (Belgium)
Nimali Samarasinha
The European Food Information Council is a non-profit organization dedicated to improving people’s understanding of food and health science. As EUFIC’s Head of Communications, Nimali Samarinha explores daily how to most effectively turn complex science into content that is appealing, accessible and actionable – to inspire and empower people to take healthier and more sustainable decisions related to their diet and lifestyle. Previously at the European Climate Foundation, she co-directed a global network of communications experts dedicated to strengthening the public discourse on climate change and its solutions, and provided strategic communications advice to the wider European climate action community. During her time at the foundation, Nimali also coordinated media operations around major international summits and conferences and, under secondment to the UN Foundation, helped build the outreach infrastructure for the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change’s 5th Assessment Report. Nimali holds a Master’s Degree (Distinctions) in Management from University of West London with specialization in crisis communication. She obtained her Bachelor’s Degree (Honours) in International Tourism and Travel Management with focus on sustainability from University of Brighton. Her 12+ years of professional experience expand across the public, private and non-profit sector and spread across science communication, political communication, media relations, brand management and marketing.
