Meredith Wadman joined Science as a staff writer in September 2016, after covering biomedical research issues from Washington, D.C., for 20 years. Her current beat encompasses research policy and politics, including sexual harassment. Her book The Vaccine Race: Science, Politics and the Human Costs of Defeating Disease – about the race for a rubella vaccine in the 1960s - was shortlisted for the Wellcome Book Prize and named a Washington Post Notable Nonfiction Book of 2017. Before coming to Science, Wadman was an editorial fellow at New America, a Washington think tank. Before that, she was a longtime retained correspondent for Nature and a contributing writer at Fortune. Her op-eds have appeared in The Wall Street Journal, The New York Times and The Washington Post. Wadman earned her B.A. in Human Biology at Stanford University and began medical school at the University of British Columbia in her native Vancouver, Canada. She completed her medical degree as a Rhodes Scholar at the University of Oxford in the United Kingdom, and earned a master of science at the Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism.
